Save Elephants with Bees - Project 2!

The success of our 1st project was phenomenal and it is thanks to every single one you who sponsored a beehive and donated. We raised and sent £5256 to build and install 100 beehives around Arusha National park and are sending funds each month to maintain the beehives, making sure that they are clean and the bees active. Each of you who sponsored a beehive will have their name or a chosen one on the beehive. In fact it also turned out to be a wonderful present! Not only have around 50 elephants stopped trespassing the boundaries of Arusha National Park, keeping them and the villagers safe, but farmers are now able to grow their crops peacefully, sell the honey harvested from the bees and, to their own surprise, even plant vegetables as their land is finally safe.

Please read more about the reason why this project is such a success here.

AFeWis (Alert for Endangered Wildlife Species) is the organisation on the ground doing all the work and desperately needing our support. This is why we decided to start a 2nd project with them and aim to install 100 beehives on the boundaries of another famous National Park: Lake Manyara.

We have currently raised £2416 to install 44 beehives in this new area and need your help to achieve our goal. Please consider sponsoring a beehive by going to the shop, and let us know the name you wish to be painted on it. You will receive a certificate and photos of your own beehive when it is available.

Tanzania lost 60% of their elephants in 5 years between 2009 and 2014, many deaths being caused by poaching or due to the elephant/human conflict.

Hello, I'm Geraldine

I founded Wild & Free - Rehabilitation and Release in October 2014 to focus on one crucial aspect of wildlife conservation: their rehabilitation and successful release back to the wild. After several volunteering experiences in South Africa with Vervet Monkeys and Chacma Baboons, I was really inspired by the work that rehabilitation centres do across the globe, and wanted to extend my support to different species and centres that most needed help, often solely relying on voluntary donations to continue their fantastic work.

I have a burning passion for all living things, for the African continent in particular but all places that are home to wildlife and need to be preserved. I strongly believe that the more we learn about different species, the more likely we are to fall in love with them and therefore want to protect them.
