The orangutan crossing the branch is called Unyil. He was rescued from a wooden crate measuring 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm next to a toilet in a village's home in Borneo, where he spent the first 3 years of his life. His mother was killed and he was sold for £80 as part of the illegal pet trade. He was treated badly but luckily, Unyil was rescued by the Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) and started a long rehabilitation journey. Wild&Free raised funds for COP and Geraldine Morelli visited the project located in East Kalimantan in February 2019.

Seeing Unyil on a pre-release island was a very emotional moment as his showed confidence and wild behaviour. He has now been released back to the forest in a remote and safe forest (also visited) where the team monitors him and the previous released orangutans.
